Washington Reading Corp

The mission of the WRC is to improve reading abilities of K-8 students across Washington State. This is achieved through tutoring of struggling readers and effective collaborations among schools, families, community members, National Service, business and state partners. WRC partners include the Governor’s Office, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Washington Service Corps, and communities around the state of Washington. To volunteer for the WRC, please call Shannon McVey at 732-4441 to find out more information.

 Volunteer Opportunities

Julie Simmons is the Classroom Volunteer coordinator. Contact Julie at 732-4430 for information on volunteering in classrooms for mentor, room parent programs, 4-H, Girl Scouts of America, the pre-school and others. A background check is required for all volunteers.

Mentoring Programs

Julie Simmons works to place mentors with students in need of one. One requirement of the jr./sr. project is to find an appropriate mentor. If your Junior or Senior is having difficulty finding a mentor on their own, contact Susan.

Northport takes six students per year and meet four days a week, 12:30 – 3:00, Monday through Thursdays. Contact Carrie Beardslee for more information at 732-4870.
